The HITECH Act included in the recently enacted Stimulus Bill imposes new HIPAA requirements for group health plans. HITECH has implications for group health plans that will be effective on or before September 18, 2009. Along with the new requirements come increased penalties and expanded application and enforcement of HIPAA.
There are important steps you may be able to take now to reduce your risk. In this Webinar, you will learn:
- The details of the changes and how they affect group health plans
- The new requirements, including the significant disclosure requirements if your Protected Health Information is inappropriately accessed, used or disclosed
- The greatly increased penalties
- How you may be able to reduce your compliance burdens and exposure by securing your Protected Health Information
- Timelines for implementation, including required renegotiation of your business associate agreements
In addition to this Webinar, Baird Holm LLP and Brendis & Brendis Inc. are in the process of developing an easy-to-understand, affordable solution for your HITECH compliance needs. This solution will be compatible with our HIPAA privacy and security manuals for group health plans.
