First Recipient Selected for Baird Holm’s Annual Diversity Scholarship

July 18, 2008

Luis Rodriguez of Papillion has been selected as the first recipient of one of Baird Holm law firm’s new diversity scholarships.

Luis Rodriguez, son of Dr. and Mrs. Anita Rodriguez, is currently a Spanish teacher in Papillion. Rodriguez will begin his first year at Creighton University School of Law in the fall. He graduated cum laude from Eastern Nazarene College in Quincy, Md. where he earned a B.A. in History.

In an effort to increase the number of minorities entering the workforce after attending and graduating from Nebraska law schools, Baird Holm created two $5000 scholarships. The two scholarships are to be awarded annually to a first-year minority law student attending each of Nebraska’s two law schools - Creighton University School of Law and the University of Nebraska College of Law.

In 2007, Creighton University School of Law cites that 11 percent of their student body were minority students. According to Martindale-Hubbell.com, 15 percent of the students attending the University of Nebraska College of Law were minority students.

Diversity is integral to Baird Holm's legal work, as it represents numerous diverse clients and organizations committed to the interests of minorities.
