Allison D. Balus

Allison D. Balus is a member of the firm's Labor, Employment and Employee Benefits Law Group. She primarily represents clients with respect to employment law and litigation issues, particularly those involving the Fair Labor Standards Act and its state counterparts and federal and state employment discrimination laws. She represents several international food processing companies in wage and hour class actions and has defended a number of Fortune 1000 companies in employment discrimination charges and lawsuits. Additionally, Ms. Balus counsels and advocates for employers on a range of employment issues, such as drafting and enforcing non-compete agreements, ensuring FMLA compliance, and defending retaliation claims.
Ms. Balus’ practice also includes Fair Housing counseling and litigation. She represents property managers, developers, builders, design professionals, and nonprofit organizations in all aspects of fair housing and public accommodation law.
In 2002, Ms. Balus was conferred her Juris Doctor, cum laude, from Georgetown University Law Center. She received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in English and French from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln in 1999.
Selected Practice Highlights
- Represents companies in wage and hour class actions, involving both federal and state claims, in all stages of litigation including discovery, opposition to class and collective action certification, and trial
- Obtained summary judgment and dismissal on behalf of employers in actions brought by former employees involving claims of discrimination based on race, disability, and age, as well as First Amendment claims
- Advocated on behalf of several group home providers for persons with disabilities to receive reasonable accommodations from municipalities
