Christopher R. Hedican graduated from Washington University in St. Louis School of Law in 1990. He was conferred a Master's of Business Administration from the John M. Olin Graduate School of Business of Washington University in St. Louis in 1990. He also received a Bachelor of Science degree, cum laude, from Creighton University in 1986.
Mr. Hedican leads the employment litigation practice for the firm's Labor, Employment and Employee Benefits Law Group, defending all types of employment claims, including discrimination, wrongful termination, retaliation, employment torts and public policy claims. He also handles non-compete and fiduciary litigation. A substantial part of his practice includes litigation involving self funded ERISA benefit plans, fully insured benefit plans and third party administrators. Such claims involve equitable subrogation and benefit denial. He regularly defends cases in state and federal courts for firm clients throughout the country, but particularly in the Midwest. Mr. Hedican is named in The Best Lawyers in America® 2011 (copyright 2010 by Woodward/White, Inc., Aiken, SC), Chambers USA and is "AV" rated by Martindale-Hubbell.
Selected Practice Highlights
- Obtained several appellate verdicts obtaining substantial equitable relief under ERISA
- Obtained dismissal of WARN Act class action complaint
- As appellate counsel, obtained reversal of 1.4 million dollar verdict in favor of former employee on breach of contract claim
- Obtained substantial attorneys' fee award for employer defendant in age discrimination case for plaintiff's bad faith litigation
- Obtained numerous summary judgment orders on behalf of employers in discrimination matters involving race, gender, national origin and disability discrimination
- Successfully prosecuted several actions to obtain injunctive relief and damages for former employee's breach of non-compete agreement
- Obtained employer jury verdict in highly publicized retaliation and breach of public policy claim against national retailer
- Successfully represented national technology company in action against former vice president and competitor for conspiracy to breach fiduciary duties and unlawful restraint of trade
