Labor and Employment. David represents both public and private sector clients with labor and employment issues. His public sector practice is focused on providing political subdivisions with assistance in comparability analysis, negotiations, contract administration and litigation before the Commission of Industrial Relations. David assists private sector clients with both traditional labor and general employment law as well as employment related litigation.
Government Affairs. David provides many clients with assistance in government relations, primarily at the state and local levels. He has been active in the national, state and local political arena. David was a candidate for the U.S. Senate in 2006, is a former party chairman, has been a campaign volunteer on numerous successful races for U.S. Senate, U.S. House of Representatives, state legislature, county treasurer and a variety of other local offices. Because of his longstanding political involvement and relationships, David is able to work closely with clients and their registered lobbyists to strategically achieve their goals.
International Business. David is fluent in both Spanish and Portuguese. As a result, he has counseled an increasing number of clients in a variety of areas relating to international business. David serves as Baird Holm’s primary representative to Lex Mundi, the world’s leading association of independent law firms. He is also very active in the international section of USLAW. David has been able to serve as a resource for clients and attorneys in identifying and managing relationships with international counsel. His language skills have also proven particularly beneficial to clients involved in litigation, as he routinely conducts depositions and witness interviews in Spanish.
RD 515/3560. David, along with Alison D. Balus and Scott P. Moore, have developed a series of training courses which provide managers of properties regulated by the United States Department of Agriculture’s Rural Development Program with the skills they need to comply with RD's requirements and successfully manage their properties. The courses provide those who are new to managing 515 housing with a comprehensive overview of the rules and regulations which they are responsible for following while at the same time providing a refresher for those who have been managing affordable rural multifamily housing projects for years. The courses are available either live or on-line.
David is listed in The Best Lawyers in America® 2011 (copyright 2010 by Woodward/White, Inc., Aiken, SC) for his work in Government Relations Law and serves on the National Board of Directors for State Law Resources, Inc., an association of administrative, regulatory and government affairs counsel. He is also a director for numerous community organizations including the Metropolitan Entertainment and Convention Authority, the Midwest International Trade Association, the Butler Gast YMCA, the Nebraska Foundation for Spinal Research, the Charles Drew Health Center Foundation, and others.
