Patrick Kennedy advises clients of all sizes – from individuals and startups to large organizations – with respect to technology and intellectual property issues.
A registered patent attorney, Patrick helps clients to secure and protect rights in their valuable assets and innovations, including through patents, trademarks, copyrights, and contractual agreements. Patrick has prepared and prosecuted numerous domestic and foreign patent applications on behalf of clients operating in many industries, including the aerospace, agricultural, artificial intelligence, biotechnology, construction, integrated circuit, machine-learning, manufacturing, material sciences, mechanical systems, optics, robotics, semiconductor fabrication and testing, computer software, sports training equipment, virtual reality, and wireless communications fields. Additionally, Patrick counsels clients with respect to intellectual property portfolio management and advises clients in patent and trademark infringement disputes. Patrick has represented the interests of clients in administrative proceedings before the United States Patent and Trademark Office, including through third-party submissions of art in pending patent applications that, if issued, may be asserted against clients, and through petitions for ex parte reexamination of issued patents that have been asserted against clients.
Patrick also assists clients with issues related to the procurement and commercialization of technology products, including through preparation and negotiation of licensing, subscription, and master and professional services agreements. Patrick’s experience with clients in a wide range of sectors allows him to provide industry-specific advice on a number of regulatory compliance matters related to commercial contracting, such as issues related to data privacy and security, financial services regulations, and money services and money transmission licensing.
Patrick earned his Juris Doctor, with distinction, from the University of Nebraska College of Law in 2018. While in law school, Patrick earned the CALI Excellence for the Future Awards in Copyright Law and the Entrepreneurship Clinic, and was elected Student Bar Association Class President by his classmates. Patrick earned his B.S. in Biochemistry from the University of Nebraska Lincoln in 2015, with minors in Chemistry, Mathematics, and Spanish.
