Sara A. Juster advises health care clients regarding a variety of issues including HIPAA privacy and security, regulatory compliance, vendor transactions and contracts, medical staff and allied health professionals issues, as well as patient care and risk management issues. Sara also provides guidance on privacy and data protection issues for businesses across all industry sectors and has developed, implemented and managed compliance and privacy programs and policies for a variety of organizations. Sara has successfully addressed numerous privacy and security incidents and related response efforts, working directly with the HHS Office of Civil Rights and other government agencies and is experienced representing entities in mediation. She has prepared and evaluated privacy & data protection processes, incident evaluation & response and addressed professional licensure issues and regulatory enforcement issues for organizations across the country.
Prior to joining the firm, Sara spent over a decade as Vice President, Compliance for a large multi-entity health system in Nebraska. In addition to her compliance responsibilities, she served as primary in-house counsel and supervised all professional malpractice litigation. Most recently, Sara served as Vice President of Compliance for a digital health tech start-up. She has also served as associate general counsel, compliance and privacy officer for a national physician enablement company, from early in its start-up through its IPO and she developed broad expertise in health information exchange through her work as associate general counsel & privacy officer for the country’s largest e-prescribing / health information exchange. Sara was also actively involved in the development of Nebraska’s own health information exchange and served as its first privacy officer. Immediately after law school, Sara served as a judicial clerk for the late Honorable Thomas M. Shanahan, Justice of the Nebraska Supreme Court.
Sara is also a Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP/US) through IAPP and a certified HealthCare Information Security and Privacy Practitioner (HCISPP) through ISC2.
