Remotely Completed COVID-19 Form I-9s Must be Re-Verified by Tomorrow!

on Tuesday, 29 August 2023 in Labor & Employment Law Update: Sarah M. Huyck, Editor

As a quick reminder for employers, earlier this year, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (“ICE”) declined to further extend COVID Form I-9 flexibilities and gave employers until August 30, 2023 to complete a physical examination of identity and employment eligibility documents for those hired on or after March 20, 2020 and whose documents were only examined virtually or via remote examination.  Hopefully, you are done!  If not, be sure that you have identified and contacted these employees for a physical inspection of their Form I-9 acceptable documentation or that your company can take advantage of the new alternative procedure allowing remote document examination for Form I-9.

For more information, check out our previous articles regarding reverification of COVID-19 remotely prepared Forms I-9 here and the new alternative procedure available to some employers found here published earlier this summer.
