Baird Holm LLP and Seven Citadels Consulting are pleased to invite you to attend the "Insider Threat Workshop," a half-day seminar about employer security issues. The target audience for this workshop includes business owners, HR managers, and Safety/Security/Risk Management professionals.

  • Jim Dale is the owner and principal of Seven Citadels Consulting with 40 years of security and risk experience. Formerly the Chief Security Officer (CSO) for three Fortune 500 companies, Jim was a career officer and special agent with the Air Force Office of Special Investigations. A Certified Threat Manager ™ and board certified in security management as a Certified Protection Professional, Jim is also a member of the Association of Threat Assessment Professionals, the International Association of Professional Security Consultants, and ASIS International.

  • Baird Holm Partner Heidi A. Guttau-Fox represents employers in employment litigation matters in state and federal courts, including claims of discrimination, retaliation, harassment, wrongful discharge, non-compete violations and other employment-related matters. She also obtains injunctive protection on behalf of employers against individuals threatening their workplaces. She regularly handles ERISA litigation. Heidi frequently represents employers in proceedings before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and state anti-discrimination agencies.

  • Baird Holm Partner James E. O'Connor's practice focuses on providing representation for clients with respect to the development, acquisition and use of technology and other forms of intellectual property. Overview of Insider Threat - Presented by: Jim Dale
This session will define and put into context the "Insider Threat" in today's business environment. It will outline types of insider threats and the drivers behind these threats. It will also note a few of the barriers to recognizing these threats. It will demonstrate how established models such as the Pathway to Violence and Fraud Triangle can be used to detect and deter the insider threat. The session will also briefly outline a few higher profile cases of insider threats and some of the motivations behind these types of threats.

Cyber Security Threat - Presented by: Vickie Ahlers and Jim O'Connor
Cyber security threats are at an all-time high, yet the single largest threat to your organization in today's electronic world stems from the behavior of your workforce.  From intentional snooping or theft of customer or proprietary company data to the innocent act of your employee that allows malware to compromise your system, your workforce plays a key role in protecting company and customer electronic data.  This session will explore the internal risks to company electronic data from the inside and describe the steps companies must take to create buy-in, awareness, education and preparedness to lessen the threat and impact of a cyber security event.

Targeted Violence Threat - Presented by: Jim Dale
This session will explain the difference between targeted and affective violence and the differences between those making a threat and those posing a threat. Additionally, it will outline a number of warning behaviors leading to targeted violence. The relationship between risk factors, stabilizing factors, and organizational factors will also be discussed in conducting threat assessments as well as threat management strategies and the use of threat management teams in an organization.

Employment Law Issues - Presented by: Heidi Guttau-Fox
What do you do if someone threatens to harm an employee, a customer, or someone else on your property?  What if they actually do commit a violent crime on your premises?  This session will cover the legal steps employers can take to protect themselves and others against threatening and potentially violent people. It will also will discuss methods for anticipating and reducing the likelihood of employee violence, mitigating liability to victims, and preventing negligent hiring, supervision and retention.
