Agenda
7:30 am – 8:15 am | Check-In
8:15 am – 8:30 am | Welcome and Introductions
Abigail T. Mohs
8:30 am – 9:30 am | The Weakest (AI) Link – What Should You Do About It?
Michael W. Chase & Kristin N. Lindgren
Last year we delved into many basic aspects of artificial intelligence (AI) and health care. What a difference a year makes! The machines and programs have continued to learn and evolve, and so have many organizations that have increasingly started to adopt AI, including generative AI in clinical settings. This year Michael and Kristin will focus on best practices for implementing AI into your organization. In doing so, they will go through a series of legal, strategic, and practical issues to help you identify (and fix) the “weakest link”.
9:30 am – 9:50 am | Networking Break
9:50 am – 11:00 am | Let’s Play “Would You Rather” – The Disruptive Physician Edition
Vickie B. Ahlers, Kimberly A. Lammers, & Scott S. Moore
You know it, you love it (or hate it)…either way, we bet you’ve at some point played the game “Would You Rather”. Rather than debating the pros and cons of eating nothing but ice cream or nothing but pizza for the next year, this session will walk through an equally thought provoking scenario involving an employed physician who has become disruptive. Vickie Ahlers, Kim Lammers and Scott Moore will do their best game show contestant renditions of would you rather handle the disruptive physician through the Medical Staff process or handle the matter through the employment process. They will discuss the pros and cons of each option, along with a bonus round discussion related to handling reference requests after the physician has departed for other opportunities. It’s sure to be an Emmy winning session!
11:00 am – 12:00 pm | Game, Set, Match – Leveraging Recruitment Incentives, Immigration and Employee Benefits for the Win!
Andrew D. Kloeckner, Kara E. Stockdale, & Morgan L. Kreiser
In today’s competitive talent market, recruiting is a full-contact sport. You need every edge and advantage to succeed, but you need to play within the rules. Our “All-Star” team at Baird Holm will guide you through the health care recruiting playbook: Andy Kloeckner will be the captain of recruitment compliance issues; immigration MVP, Kara Stockdale, will shut out the competition for foreign talent; and Morgan Kreiser will serve as the rules analyst as she reviews the tax and employee benefit “do’s” and “don’ts” in the recruitment game. Get “coached up” on all things recruitment!
12:00 pm – 1:00 pm | Lunch
1:00 pm – 2:00 pm | The Latest Word
Panel of Baird Holm Attorneys
This session includes the always popular, fast-paced discussion of a variety of issues affecting health care organizations. This year’s panel of Baird Holm attorneys will cover recent topics including compliance updates, state law developments, immigration, and several other health care law topics.
2:00 pm – 2:20 pm | Networking Break
2:20 pm – 3:10 pm | I Spy with my Privacy Eye…
Vickie B. Ahlers & Abigail T. Mohs
Concerns over privacy of patient data are front and center these days in the changing political climate. Yet hidden in the many pages of new rules are very complicated procedural steps that will trip you up if not prepared. Vickie Ahlers and Abby Mohs will bring you along as they explain the nuances of the new rules protecting reproductive health care and substance use disorder information. In addition to uncovering what the regulations now require, they will also scope out the compliance implications you never saw coming. Think you’ve already spotted it all? Look again!
3:10 pm – 4:00 pm | Choose Wisely: Fix It, Disclose It, or Pretend It Didn’t Happen
Kimberly A. Lammers & Erin E. Busch
Uh oh. You discovered potentially noncompliant activity at your organization . . . Now what do you do? Join Kim Lammers and Erin Busch to discuss whether to (A) fix it, (B) disclose it, or (C) pretend it didn’t happen. This session will use hypotheticals to discuss the various options and the associated risks. Like Indiana Jones in the Last Crusade, “You must choose . . . but choose wisely . . . “
4:00 pm | Adjourn
4:00 pm – 5:00 pm | Reception
