Michael D. Sands’ practice focuses on real estate, construction, tax-increment financing, occupation taxes, municipal bonds, and renewable energy matters. He represents commercial real estate developers, wind and solar developers, investors and owners of real estate in matters involving the acquisition, financing, sale and development of real property, leasing, management, land use and zoning, tax-increment financing, workforce housing, occupation taxes, and title review. Michael also represents municipalities, acting as special counsel for projects utilizing tax-increment financing, general business occupation taxes and other alternative financing mechanisms. Michael currently serves on the board of directors for the Nebraska Housing Development Association and Restoration Exchange Omaha.
Michael received his Juris Doctor, with high distinction, from the University of Nebraska College of Law in 2015, where he was inducted into the Order of the Coif. While in law school, Michael served as Executive Editor of the Nebraska Law Review. He was the recipient of the CALI Excellence for the Future Award in Contracts, Pre-trial Litigation, and Federal Income Tax. Michael received his Bachelor of Science with a major in Journalism from the University of Kansas.
