104th Nebraska Legislature: Interim Study Resolutions

on Tuesday, 4 August 2015 in Dirt Alert: David C. Levy, Editor

The Nebraska Legislature introduced 129 legislative resolutions for study during the interim period between the 2015 session and the 2016 legislative sessions. Here is a list of the resolutions that may be of interest to you, including the resolution number, sponsor, committee of jurisdiction, and scheduled hearing date (if available).

Of note, the Urban Affairs Committee, chaired by Senator Crawford of Bellevue, continues to seek ways to facilitate economic development through the use of local economic development incentives, including LR 152 and LR 155. LR 152 will evaluate potential changes to LB 840, which allows cities to redirect local sales tax and property tax dollars to economic development programs. LR 155 will evaluate potential changes to Nebraska’s tax-increment financing statutes. Hearings on both legislative resolutions will be on September 25, 2015.

When the Legislature schedules or discusses additional hearings during the interim period, we will keep you informed. Although the Legislature does not schedule most interim studies for a public hearing, committee staff works with the chair of the committee of jurisdiction and the sponsor of the resolution to determine the committee’s priorities and planned disposition for each resolution: a public hearing; a summary or detailed analysis of the issues and findings; or an acknowledgement of the Legislature’s interest in a particular issue.

A complete list of the interim study resolutions is available on the Legislature’s website. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have questions, and if you would like any additional information on any pending resolution, please let us know.
