Nebraska Attorney General Publishes Sexual Assault-Related Injury Reporting Protocol

on Thursday, 5 September 2019 in Health Law Alert: Erin E. Busch, Editor

Last year, the Nebraska Unicameral updated Nebraska’s Wounds of Violence reporting statute. In the statutory update, the Attorney General was directed to develop and distribute a statewide model protocol for the submission of anonymous reports of actual or attempted sexual assaults by July 2019.

In the interim, the Attorney General’s Office published a letter providing three reporting options. In July, it formalized this guidance in its “Nebraska Medical Sexual Assault Protocol.” The Protocol not only provides for the reporting options, but also provides resources for medical professionals to use when assisting patients who were victims of sexual assaults.
