on Monday, 12 May 2014 in Dirt Alert: David C. Levy, Editor

On April 16, 2014, Governor Heineman signed Legislative Bill 1115, a bill appropriating funds for a study of state, regional, and national transmission infrastructure and policy. Introduced by Senator Al Davis, LB 1115 requires the Nebraska Power Review Board to produce the transmission study and to submit its results to the governor and the legislature on or before December 15, 2014.

The goal of the study is to identify electric transmission and generation constraints and opportunities, with the objective of expanding the export of electricity generated in Nebraska by renewable and other sources of generation. This analysis will also include an examination of potential markets for electricity export. LB 1115 appropriated $200,000 to the Nebraska Power Review Board for the study.
