ONLINE NOTARY PUBLIC ACT (NE)
Governor Ricketts issued an Executive Order on April 1st, making Nebraska’s Online Notary Public Act effective immediately, subject to rules and regulations promulgated by the Nebraska Secretary of State. The Online Notary Public Act, Neb. Rev. Stat. §§ 64-401 et seq., allows for an online notary public to notarize certain documents remotely, without the principal(s) being in the online notary’s presence. The Act does not allow for the notarization of wills, codicils, testamentary trusts, or for certain requirements under the UCC.
ELECTRONICALLY FILING YOUR PROTEST (NE)
A Petition for Redetermination (Protest) can now be filed electronically for Notice of Deficiency Determinations issued by the Nebraska Department of Revenue. This does not apply to protests or appeals filed with the Property Assessment Division. Instructions on how to upload and file a protest are available here.
INCOME TAX WITHHOLDING DEPOSIT DUE DATE EXTENDED (IA)
Iowa Director of Revenue Kraig Paulsen issued an order extending the income tax withholding deposit due date for the period ending March 15, 2020, from March 25, 2020, to the new deposit due date April 10, 2020. The order applies to Iowa residents or other taxpayers doing business in Iowa who remit income tax withholding on a semi-monthly basis.
