Allison D. Balus primarily represents management clients in federal and state court employment litigation and arbitration. She has substantial experience defending and counseling clients in class/collective actions, involving claims under the FLSA and other wage and hour laws, the ADA, GINA, and the TCPA. Her successes in these class actions have been at the presuit, class certification, trial, and appellate levels.
Allison’s litigation experience also includes federal and state court jury and bench trials in FLSA, Title VII, FMLA, ADA, ADEA, whistleblower, and breach of contract cases. She has represented employers in the transportation, retail, food processing, health care, manufacturing, marketing, professional staffing, and fast-food industries, among others. In addition, Allison defends employers against charges of discrimination before state and federal agencies, and counsels and advocates for employers on a range of employment issues, including drafting and enforcing non-compete agreements, compliance with state and federal employment laws, and responding to civil subpoenas.
Allison’s practice also includes Fair Housing counseling and litigation. She represents property managers, developers, builders, design professionals, and non-profit organizations in all aspects of fair housing and public accommodation law. Since 2005, she has participated in Federal fair housing litigation in a number of different states and has represented property managers and owners in defending HUD discrimination charges. In addition, she provides Fair Housing training, as well as training on Affordable Rural Multi-Family Housing and the Section 3560 regulations, to property owners and managers across the country.
In 2002, Allison was conferred her Juris Doctor, cum laude, from the Georgetown University Law Center. She received her Bachelor of Arts Degree, with distinction, in English and French from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln in 1999.
Allison serves on the Executive Committee for the Nebraska State Bar Association’s Labor Relations and Employment Law Section and has been an Contributing Editor for The Fair Labor Standards Act (BNA). She appeared on Benchmark Litigation’s nationwide “Under 40 Hot List” in 2016 and 2017. She is a Preferred Legal Services Provider for Tyson Foods, Inc.
